Charlotte Seen celebrated 149th Kentucky Derby in style!
We wore fancy hats and sipped Mint Juleps!
We had real horses!
We watched the Kentucky Derby Live!!
Everyone even got to place their bets on the winning horse! The winner received a door prize!
The ladies sported their finest derby attire! Elaborate hats and fun, floral summer dresses adorned the models and the audience!
Gentleman young and old donned summer suits, linen and seersucker as well as straw hats, fedoras and newsboy caps. Once again, the audience was as stylish as the models.
The year 2000 was a memorable one for many reasons.
The world was unsure of many things. Would computers crash? We were just beginning to depend on computers as a way of life and the world was in a panic.
As soon as the clock struck 12 and everything went smoothly, we could focus on more important things… like FASHION!!
The late 90s to early 00s pop culture are back! Think Paris Hilton, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera.
Tie Front Tops
One of the biggest trends from the 2000s making a comeback is the tie front tops.
Velour Tracksuits
Brands like Juicy Couture, Baby Phat, and celebrities like JLo, Paris Hilton, and Britney Spears made this ensemble famous.
Tiny skirts and Tiny bags
Films including Mean Girls, Legally Blonde and Clueless provide plenty of fashion inspo from that era.
It’s not a bag, it’s a baguette
Carrie Bradshaw in my mind is the epitome of y2k fashions. From Fendi to DIOR, Carrie always carried the IT bag of the season.
Bucket hats and Logos
Logos were HUGE in the 2000’s. And everyone sported a bucket hat! Denim, cotton or fur, we were so cool!
Low Rise Jeans
Those jeans need to stay in the past lol. I think very few will disagree with me.
Butterfly Clips
You could never have too many butterfly clips in your hair! Wear coordinating colors or wear a rainbow of colors. They always being a smile to anyone’s face.
Mad for Plaid
As IF!! School Girl inspired outfits have come and gone through the years. And they’re back with a bang!
Bandanas
One of the staple accessory trends of the early 2000s was the bandana.
It’s a versatile headscarf that can completely change your outfit.
TLC, Christina Aguilera and JLo really set this trend.
Why are these trends coming back around?
It appeals to a sense of nostalgia. Many people who are now in their 20s and 30s grew up in the early 2000s.
Maybe they realize their glory days have passed. Maybe being an adult isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Or maybe they realize it was
Or maybe they realize it was a fun, creative time in fashion.
Either way, dig out those ‘vintage’ outfits and Party Like It’s 1999!
The Met Gala or Met Ball, formally called the Costume Institute Gala or the Costume Institute Benefit, is an annual fundraising gala held for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City..
The theme for the 2023 Met Gala was all about honoring the late designer Karl Lagerfeld, who is known for his work across the industry but especially for his time at Chanel.
While there were some amazing fashions that night, not all of them MET the expectations of the theme.
Here are some examples that I feel nailed it when it came to honoring Karl.
The first being Jeremy Pope. He wore Karl Lagerfeld on His Train, making one of the more dramatic looks of the night. Pope took over the entire space of the carpet thanks to the oversized train of his featuring Lagerfeld’s visage, designed by Balmain.
Camellias are a Chanel signature, and several chose the flower in Karl’s memory.
Classic black and white, high collars, fingerless gloves and Karl’s signature white button up shirt made their presence.
Let’s not forget Tweed and pearls!
A few paid homage to Largerfeld’s beloved cat Choupette.
But none did it as PURRfectly as Doja Cat.
By far, my absolute favorites were Rihanna and Cardi B.
The theme was established, and these attendees MET those expectations.
