Can we talk about the outfits????
The 2021 Inauguration was controversial for many reasons. But the fashionista in me wants to focus on the clothes.

Purple was the theme.
Symbolizing unity amongst Democrats and Republicans, purple merges blue and red and creates unity.
Purple is also the color that represents women’s rights.
And it’s a nod to Shirley Chisholm who inspired Harris to pursue politics.
Vice President Kamala Harris and Former First Lady Michelle Obama both wore the regal color with designs from emerging South Carolina designer Sergio Hudson and Louisiana designer Christopher John Rogers.
Kamala Harris left her Chucks at home that day, but she did sport her signature pearls.

Former First Lady Hillary Clinton sported a purple pant suit with matching ruffled scarf by Ralph Lauren.

First Lady Jill Biden chose shades of blue in this Markarian design to signify trust, confidence and stability.

Poet Amanda Gorman brightened the lives of all Americans as she spoke wearing this sunny yellow number from Prada.

Jennifer Lopez in Chanel and Lady Gaga in Shiaparelli wowed in these outfits as they performed.
Lady Gaga stated her Dove broach held a special meaning.
“A dove carrying an olive branch. May we all make peace with each other,” Gaga wrote after her performance.

What do you wear when your stepmother is being sworn in as Vice President of the United States?
For Ella Emhoff, a student of fashion, it was this striking coat from Miu Miu.

I’ve only focused on the ladies for this blog but I have to include Bernie Sanders’s Mittens.
Bernie became the focus of many memes and gifs roasting his cold, casual pose.
But I love these mittens and how they came about.
They were made from repurposed wool sweaters and lined with fleece made from recycled plastic bottles.
Made by Vermont second grade teacher Jen Ellis who sent the mittens to Sanders last year with a personal note of encouragement.
This is a look at some of my favorite outfits from the 2021 Inauguration.
The year has been off to a great and fashionable start!
